The genuine purpose of information retrieval system is to support us to select information, not to select information in lieu of us. In other words, information retrieval systems should be a kind of decision support systems. So, it is reasonable to reconstruct information retrieval systems in the framework of utility theory.

In this paper, we show that some models ever proposed can be reconstructed in the framework of Multi-Attribute Utility Theory. Especially, we adopt Additive Differece Model in order to reformulate Extended Boolean Retrieval Models.
