The computer system planned and developed by the author for indexing journal articles is called MISA(Mechanized Indexing System by Anzai). The system is composed of the following six segments written in KOS (Keio Operating System) Assembler:

1. INIMAS
reads and processes initial data, produces Initial Master File, and prints out Sequential List.
2. ALTMAS
alters the contents of Initial Master File and prints out Altered Sequential List.
3. KWICED
reads and processes Master File, and produces unsorted KWIC File.
4. KWOCED
reads and processes Master File, and produces unsorted KWOC-type File.
5. SORPRI
sorts KWIC or KWOC-type File and prints out KWIC Index, KWOC Index, Author Index and/or WADEX.
6. WORDFR
counts the frequency of word occurrence and prints out a frequency table.

A usual automatic indexing system prepares a separate bibliography in addition to a KWIC or KWOC index. And for detailed bibliographic information, a user must look up the bibliography. In MISA each index itself gives necessary data in a simplified form making it unnecessary to look up a separate bibliography.

The machine configuration required for the operation of MISA are as follows: TOSBAC 3400 16K Words, Card Reader 1, Line Printer 1, Magnetic Tape Units 4.
