This paper presents a study on libraries for children. The role of reading in childhood as a positive influence on character molding has been recognized and various reading facilities for children have been established in Japan.
The author made a survey on schoolchildren's opinions of reading and reading facilities. The investigation revealed that if books were at hand, children would read them and if reading facilities were located nearby, children would use them. On the basis of these findings, the author made suggestions on improving present children's libraries and proposed for establishing an unified district library network.
