As online searching is getting more popular, a variety of user training procedures are identified. This paper describes characteristics of user trainings based mainly on the two survey results which were carried out at different situations, that is, concerning librarians in corporate libraries and in university libraries. In the former care many respondents had experiences to attend training courses hold by venders. Though both survey results showed that training courses were useful for users to become familiar with online searching, several problems were recognized. Then, this paper introduces the five-stage training program developed at NLM and how the program would be applicable to the training courses in general.
