The writer reports in this article the results of her recent survey on foreign journals loaned and photocopied during one-year period of October 1, 1966 through September 30, 1967, in the Kitasato Memorial Medical Library of Keio University.
The survey results show that there exist core journals and that Bradford's law of scattering is recognized. In the fields such as chemistry, pathology and anatomy, older literature is used more often than in other fields. On the other hand, the latest literature is heavily used in such fields as cancer and tumor. It is also notable that a distinction is observed between uses in basic medicine and clinical medicine.
