The 1970's are called a decade of information science and technology. Since librarians handle information contained in books and other library materials, they should keep up with the progress of these days. But individual librarians and information officers have so many different opinions and attitudes toward information science and technology that we feel lost. With the hope of getting some suggestions about how and where to proceed in these rapidly changing days, the author tries to examine the objectives and activities of ASLIB, SLA, ASIS and FID, the representative organizations to which individual librarians and information officers gather together to improve their skills and theories and the profession at large.
